Hi all 
I just found this site from an ad on the Heavens-above website. What a great idea...kudos to the people who put this place together.
I'm the proud owner of an 18 inch Obsession dob, and live in a remote enough part of the state of Montana that I can just go outside my shed with my scope and not be bothered by lights. In addition to viewing with the scope I'm also a big fan of iridium satellite flares and other satellites...in fact the ISS just went overhead a few minutes ago, and I'll be watching for a -6 iridium flare in about an hour.
I look forward to participating here and getting to know some of you

Hi BobM,
Its great to have you here. MyDob.co.uk is the joint idea of me and rocketeer and as you can see it is all still early on in its development. So please mention us to other dobsonian scope users you know
We've got some big plans that we are working on. We are currently developing a community sky chart. This will allow members of the community to post objects on the sky chart and make comments, attach pictures etc. If you have any feature ideas that you would like to see then please let us know.

That 18 inch dob of yours sounds massive, when I brought my 8 inch a couple of weeks ago I was struggling to find room for it! Sounds like a great place you live. I am in a small town, light pollution isn't too bad until our neighbours security lights are triggered.  |

Ye guys are lucky, I've just bought a 12inch myself and it's fantastic, I've always used Newtonian scopes, so this is a real first for me!!!
Unfortunately I live in the city and have major trouble with light pollution, I have to travel 12miles to get a dark site, so I'm really envious of anyone who can just head out their back and see clear skies...

Try viewing under mercury vapor, anti-crime street lights, with a light pollution sky glow dome that is almost as bright as a mushroom cloud.
That's what its like viewing down in Miami. Consider yourself lucky.
