Hi,
I will be at Mariazell. That's a very dark area in the northern part of the alps. Here is a map showing the light polution:
http://www.nightsky.at/Obs/LP/LV_DMSP.jpg - Light Polution Map.
Mariazell ist the green spot (second darkest category, where artificial brightness of the night sky is less or equal then the natural one) in the top right part of the big dark blue area (darkest category, lightpollution much less than natural luminenz of the sky).
There's also an amateur astronomy observatory:
http://ccdeder.freewebspace.com - Raiffeisen Volkssternwarte Mariazellerland.
Biggest problem: The weather. Not that there is too much fog or clouds in Mariazell, no, but it is one of the coldest places in the eastern alps. Last year vacation was at -20°C (-4 F if I did the conversion the correct way
So very likely I will do much more skiing than observing...
Best regards
