Being fairly new to using telescopes and in particular dobsonians, how do I align the spotting scope?

Following on from this, when I have used it (yes I did it without aligning the spotting scope first), I found it fairly difficult to keep the mount "steady". The same is true for the telescope itself. Can anyone suggest a way to - perhaps - "counter-balance" the telescope for better viewing pleasure.

Many thanks.

I find the easiest way to align the spotting scope is to point the scope at the moon or other distinct object and center this in the main eyepiece. I then check back at the finderscope and adjust as needed. Then check through the eyepiece and back again.

It is easier with two people, but not to difficult on your own.

For steading your scope try adding another layer of felt to your alt pivot.
