When I cut out the Daily Telegraph September Star Chart by Adrian Berry I noticed particularly the reference to M71.....M71?
My bible is Storm Dunlop & Wil Tirion's excellent "how to IDentify NIGHT SKY" which makes only a position mention of this fascinating, rich but faint cluster 13000 LY distant (originally thought 18KLY). Way down from the Double Cluster, between Delta and Gamma Saggittae. Altair is too far. As Adrian says, at low mag it is a pale blue star but up the ante and persist-some detail resolves.
Last night was an excellent opportunity to view again as the Summer Triangle starts to slip away. With high pressure dominating now you still have a chance too. One of these night sky oddities, high in metals, coming towards you at 30Km/sec. Almost an oddball cluster.
In Sagittarius 19h53m8s RA and+18.47 DEC with Mag8.2 The whole about 90 LY across. SSW half a degree away is Harvard 20 a cluster of thirty or so stars-yeh?
