Explora-dome*
There are now still two of us interested in importing eight of these domes, or fewer, in a standard shipping crate. Likely to include the new base ring and rotation kits. The alternative, slightly smaller, SkyShedPod is becoming available though at a considerably greater cost; their basic unit is £1800 and the dome part is not listed separately. I don't fancy the plastic lower cylindrical assembly. Blockwork is more secure and cheaper.
Thankfully the Explora-dome therefore becomes even more attractive.
Viewing in the darkening skies is improving but the tiny black flies were still horrible out in the open. At least with the viewing slot I stand a chance. Wonder if a smokin' joss stick would make life uncomfortable for them, or me?
Yes-the ED will work with a dobsonian, my dob has the base raised just 300mm off the ground (simulation mode) now letting me spend more comfortable zenith time. M92 and the double double. No horizon problem either; actually the dome does have a hinged flap at the lower slot end to allow horizontal viewing. With the trees losing some leaves it is clearing a little. The house nearby has stood from 1780 though and is likely to remain there denying me the south west. Need a 300ft height base really.
We must move fast before the dollar slumps against the £.
Details at http://www.exploradome.us/ ....and now includes detailed customer histories, installed photos etc. There are many ED constructions throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico and a few in Europe so far. Nearest currently in Northern Ireland so shipping can be done. The useful forums are also mentioned and well worth reading, especially the Yahoo one.
