A TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE
3rd February 23007 was a total lunar eclipse and for once the forecast was promising. It was visible throughout the UK in theory and most of Europe
Started around 21.30 hrs UTC on the 3rd March and ran until 00.12 on the Sunday morning 4th March.
We haven't had a decent lunar eclipse for about six years and I can't remember a good copper coloured one since I don't know when. Must have been the atmospheric pollution. This one was excellent and justified the hype.
My Sky at Night magazine mentions the Danjon scale; this is used for the intensity measurement. Further information at http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/alp and the BAA Lunar Section website www.baalunarsection.org.uk
Relieved to finally get my 13% moon filter because it was hard viewing before. This time seeing was clear (after the previous day showers) and the filter gave a good balance especially during the totality, nicely attenuating the brighter fringe.
