Elusive Mercury
Almost a week of excellent clear skies here in Britain. Tuesday was the best and gave several hours of late viewing. But where was Mercury?
Despite looking up the postition in Starry Night Orion Special Edition, I couldn't see it. What with the distant Manchester orange glow and my eyesight. Other evenings the seeing, suprisingly, has been much less clear. The moon is still thinnish though Tuesday really needed the 'scopes light grasp for the peaks thrill. Tonight Mercury is at the bottom (near enough) of the Moon, Capella to the west, triangle. Just above the roof and tree top line in that direction for me. But worth a search the moment the sun drops. Mars is to the other side of the moon and close.
If I don't see it this time, Saturn will be, as always, the compensation.
